Insight 213: Become a FaithSoaring Church By Walking the Second Mile

FaithSoaring Churches 100CLRCongregations seeking to transform have a clear picture of the people with who they will walk the second mile of service. This is not about people in the congregation being willing to work harder. It is not even about them being willing to work smarter. It is about them being willing to go farther.

Who are the people with whom they will go the second mile? What are the names, life situation, and spiritual engagement of 12 people each active person knows with whom they would walk the second mile, and not just one mile, one effort, or one event?

Insight 212: Become a FaithSoaring Church By An Obsession with God’s Vision

FaithSoaring Churches 100CLRTransform congregations by ignoring the size of the congregation. Why? Because too often transformation is associated with numerical growth. In fact, it is obsessed with it.

Much more important than the size of a congregation, and whether or not it is growing numerically, is its focus on fulfilling or living into God’s vision for it as a congregation. Numerically growth is often a side benefit, but it should not be the focus.

When congregations are obsessed with numerical growth they are talking about transactional change rather than transformational change. They are obsessed with their own vision rather than God’s.

Insight 211: Become a FaithSoaring Church By Death and Resurrection

FaithSoaring Churches 100CLRAt times the closed, myopic culture of congregations is so strong that they must die to self and be resurrected to Christ. This requires congregations to actually die before they can live again. A radical way to transform congregations--when this is their situation--is to intentionally close them and on the ashes of their death to start new congregations.

Talk about radical! It is the best solution for some congregations. The new congregation cannot be led by the old leadership, cannot worship in the old way, may need to speak a different language, and express the gospel in a new culture context.

Insight 210: Become a FaithSoaring Church By Intentionally Deploying the Next Generation of Leaders

FaithSoaring Churches 100CLRCongregations seeking to transform intentionally identify, develop, and deploy the next generation of leaders. People with leadership ability want to lead. They want their spiritual gifts, strengths, and preferences recognized. They want open doors through which they can walk to express leadership. If these are not present they may go elsewhere.

This strategy must start early in the life of congregations and be hard-wired into their culture. The challenge for too many congregations is that they do not initiate this strategy until the prospect pool of potential next generation leaders is practically depleted or has turned their passion in another direction.

Insight 209: Become a FaithSoaring Church By Reimaging Your Church

FaithSoaring Churches 100CLRThe image or reputation of many congregations is not good in their community context. Congregations have not always acted with unconditional love toward people and circumstances in their community context. When this happens, for a congregation to transform, it must reimage itself within its community context.

This will often call for radical action that changes the reputation of the congregation. A reputation of unconditional love with sound convictions about being a Christian-centered and faith-based congregation. It may even call for--wait--changing the name of the congregation, or even taking the name of the congregation’s denomination out of the name of the church.
